A Mystery Man has suddenly become the most talked about piece on the World Wide Web, thanks to the website thisman.org.

It is learnt that a lady undergoing a psychiatry session three years ago drew the sketch of man who regularly visited her in her dreams. The interesting part was that the lady had never met or seen the man before.  When another patient saw the sketch of mystery man lying on psychiatrist desk, he claimed to have dreamt the man!

The psychiatrist when mailed the picture of mystery man to some of his colleagues, some of their patients also recognized the sketch. Now when this sketch was posted on the Internet 2 weeks ago, it has turned into a giant phenomenon drawing online traffic of unheard proportions. Thousands of people across the globe are claiming that this man on “thisman.org” regularly appears to them while they sleep.

Hoax or something, this one event has started creating new rules of Online Traffic generating wild hits every day.

Who is not afraid of Recession?

I just happened to run in to the latest findings of the American Diabetes Association and guess what, the read was numbing! Eight Percent of or 23.6 million population of the United States is diabetic.

Not only this, some 70,000 people in US die due to Diabetes every year making it the 6th leading cause of deaths in America.

13.7% men and 11.9% women in the range of 30 years and above have diabetes!  Some one-third of these folks have never even got a diagnosis of this disease.

South-Eastern states in US  have the highest precedence of diabetes and Mississippi is infamous for 11.4 % of people with diabetes in the 30 to 59 age groups and 27.7 percent above 60 years infected with diabetes.

Amongst Colorado, Montana, Minnesota, and Vermont, it is Vermont that has lowest at 6.1 % for people 30 to 59 age range and 19.9% for people over sixty.

The worse part of this US Diabetes Factsheet is that 80% of people get aware of this dreaded killer only when they report serious complications like:

Yesterday, the cyber crime world, to its utter dismay and disarray, learnt of the Operation Phish Fry aimed at scamsters in connection with multinational bank phishing complaints. The latest Operation Phish Fry was planned under the goverments of US and Egypt.

More than fifty-five suspects were nabbed in North Carolina, Nevada and California. The alleged US ringleader Kenneth Joseph Lucas was the only person whose name figured in each of the indictment’s fifty-one counts.

The phishing scam arrests revealed a procedure wherein fraudulent emails were dispatched to tempt victims to bogus bank sites where they were conned into revealing their personal information & banking data. The user details thus gathered were then forwarded to accomplices in USA who facilitated fund transfer to other bank accounts. A part of these funds was withdrawn and later transferred to the Egyptian scamsters.

To quote Thom Mrozek, a spokesman of the US Department of Justice, “At the end of the day, it’s a very simple scheme ; “I think it is very well understood by the average citizen. Everyone out there with a computer has seen e-mails that say, “Hi, we’re from your financial institution. Come to our web site and fill out this information.” This email scam is known to have surfaced strongly since 2007.

As more arrests are made in following days, the moral of the story is never risk disclosure of your personal information on the web in a naive and casual way. A heist can actually leave you distraught.

Hackers and conmen often use what is technically known as “Social Engineering” while baiting their victims online.

Stealing somebody’s identity ( you need not be a style icon from Beverly Hills or a rocket scientist!) has grown to be one of biggest revenue-pulling business worldwide. So I feel all of us who use Internet must learn to pick signals often waived by fraudsters.

Online fraudsters are the most successful students of human psychology. They, while framing attacks, most often than not, target your fear, greed or scarcity.

Protect your Personal Information stubbornly.  I am sure you know this: Personal Information is not your bank details, credit card information or , passwords.  Info about your family, friends, where you work, your preferences etc are all trivia-looking bytes that are also Personal Information very skillfully harnessed by conmen to dupe you online. Such info is used by cyber conmen to appear trustworthy as they persuade you to a Decision Moment.

Decision Moment! Be alert. A Decision Moment can come when:

a) You are persuaded to Install a Software

b) You are urged to Download a Software, Wallpaper,  song, trailer, pdf, card etc.

c) You are advised to shut down your PC Security Software

d) You are informed about someone’s financial loss

e) You are persuaded to part with your financial information.

f)  You are confronted with a nude celeb link or a link to latest events.

Hacker Attacks can bring down you PC anytime. There can be just you PC under Hacker Attack or multiple exploits at similar time.

An Inexperienced user can hardly ever know if it is a hacker attack and that’s where I am gonna tell you how to detect if your PC is hacked. So here I go:

Are you using an ADSL modem or a dial up account and find a curiously high volume of outgoing traffic, especially when your PC is not processing any application? If yes, then most likely that your machine is under hack. It might be getting used to send spam mails by hacker or some network trojan or malware replicating and sending out its multiple versions.

The next thing to watch out for is the activity of your Hard disk.  If you notice increased Hard Disk activity or suspicious-looking folders or files in your root directories, time to do something about your personal documents. Enhanced disk activity happens when hackers intrude the system and run large scans of your machine to hunt down files or documents containing email user information, banking information for PayPal etc.

The next of PC Tips is easy. If your domestic antivirus software reports that trojans or worms have been detected even when you’ve have not downloading anything recently or been on the Web in a while.

Spam is evolving daily and email spam is the worse. Worse as most of us open and check the attachments that end up in our Inbox instead of Junk! And here lies the danger. Though no one can claim to catch up with latest email attachment spams, yet it’s good to report one as soon as one finds it.

So here I am alerting you about Trojan-Spy.Win32 family and backdoor.irc.zapchast.zwrc

Spammers have become smarter and now are using ecards which are mass-mailed.

There comes an attachment along with the E-Card with the name such as “something.card.zip” which, however is a malicious Trojan program from the Trojan-Spy.Win32.Zbot family crafted to steal user data. In some mass mailings a backdoor.irc.zapchast.zwrc trojan was detected that allowed remote operation of the PC via the Internet with the help of mIRC. Here is the snapshot of the Ecard Mailer:
